There are many reasons to choose timber framing over other methods
of construction, not the least of which are that timber frames are beautiful,
traditional and built to last. A timber frame or post and beam home is as
unique as the people who inhabit it, whether the home is built as a
primary home, vacation home or a home to retire to.
With exposed natural beams and traditional wooden joinery,
timber frames impart an incomparable sense of warmth, comfort and security to
indoor spaces. By combining the proven strength of this ancient craft with a
few modern technologies, Davis Frame timber frames can also give you one of the
most energy-efficient, high-performance homes possible today.
Our Signature Look
Whether your main reasons for choosing a timber
frame are technical, aesthetic, or otherwise, Davis Frame timber frames offer
elegant, simple solutions to many of the challenges that exist in
designing a home, especially those issues that are concerned with
quality -- not quantity -- of space.
We uses traditional mortise and tenon
joinery and wooden pegs to hold the timbers in place. We leave the timber frame
exposed on the inside of the structure, which defines the space and lends a
unique and beautiful aesthetic to the home. The curved braces, chamfered edges,
and clear Tung oil finish have become the signature features of a Davis Frame
timber frame home.
We Create and Design What You Want
Davis Frame will design and cut your new timber frame home the way you want it. We use
a computer-controlled, automated cutting machine to precisely cut the majority
of the joinery on our timbers. We pay careful attention to the details on each
and every piece in the frame, choosing to hand cut some joinery to ensure a
tight fit.
During the hand finishing process we chisel, wax, plane,
sand, chamfer and apply a tung oil finish to all the timbers. If you are a
discriminating client who wants to have a completely hand cut frame, we’ll do
it. Our team includes experienced timber frame cutters who can cut complex
joinery with hand tools, scribe fit timbers into logs, hand hew the timbers
with an adze, or cut complex curves into timber mantles to give your home that
custom home appeal.
