The term post and beam is often times used synonymously with timber frame home design. Timber framing is a specific type of post and beam construction. Timber framing is a centuries-old building technique that utilizes mortise and tenon joinery to unite large wooden beams to form the structure of a home or building. This time-honored building technique, sometimes also referred to outside the trade as post and beam, experienced a vigorous renewal in the 1970s and since then has been rapidly gaining in popularity.
Davis Frame Company uses traditional mortise and tenon joinery and wooden pegs to hold the timbers in place. This leaves the actual timber frame exposed on the inside of the structure defining the space and the aesthetics of the post and beam and timber frame home. The curved braces, chamfered edges, and clear Tung oil finish have become the signature features of a Davis Frame timber frame home.
