Check out our modern barn home floor plan! Barn homes are all the rage right now and have been a classic design choice for years. A design emulated after a barn is a timeless and classic design that really will never go out, especially in New England.
Over the years we’ve received requests for a hybrid barn home that features part timber frame and part conventional. We’ve also had an interest in a more modern barn home design. We created a modern hybrid variation of our popular Classic Barn Home floor plan. To modernize the exterior features, we chose vertical siding and windows without grilles. The possibilities are endless on how you can modernize this design. For example, you could go with white vertical siding and trim and a black metal roof which would give this barn home design a nice clean and modern look.
Modern Barn Home Floor Plan
The first-floor plan features a large open space with the great room, dining, and kitchen open to another. It features the timber frame in the dining room and great room. This section of the barn home has a lower roof line, allowing for an easy connection to the conventional section of the home. If the roof lines were the same height, it would be much more challenging to use a hybrid of construction methods. We also located the master bedroom suite and mudroom on the first floor and feature traditional framing to break up the timber frame.
The second floor is conventional construction, although the loft overlooks the timber frame great room and dining on the first floor. Even though the roof heights vary between the timber frame and the conventional section, there is still enough height to the roofline of the timber frame section that the timber frame can be enjoyed from the second-floor loft.
