Design & Build Process

Creating Your New Home with Davis Frame

Congratulations, youโ€™ve decided to build a new home!

It can be overwhelming to think about the home building process and where to begin, especially if you havenโ€™t built a home before. Below we outline our step-by-step process for a new timber frame or panelized home, starting with designs and materials packages through completion.

Available in a wide range of sizes and styles, all our standard plans can be customized to meet your needs or built exactly to the original specifications. Let Davis Frame build the beautiful, functional, traditional house that you and your family will be able to call home for generations.

Connect with Davis Frame

To begin planning your dream home, we recommend calling us to discuss your ideas. At this stage, we will ask you questions to better understand your vision and needs. We will then share any plans that may fit that vision. We have designed hundreds of plans over the years, and chances are we will have something of interest to share.

We will also go over your timeline and budget, which will help determine the next steps and give you some food for thought.

Or perhaps youโ€™ve already contracted with a home designer or architect. If so, we will have you send along your plans and we will price it out.

Of course, at any point during the process, we welcome you to visit our facilities to get to know us and see how we operate. And, if geographically feasible, one of our project managers would be happy to meet with you at your land.

design phase

We are ready to work with you to make sure your new home-building experience is a success. Our design team has decades of collaborative experience in the home building industry.

We use CADWORK to design all of our timber frame and panelized homes. With our design services, we will develop:

  • Floor plans
  • Elevations
  • Cross-section details
  • Structural details once a design and package is chosen

Currently, expect the design phase to last from 2-5 months and the production phase to last 4-7 months, so overall lead time from beginning the design to delivering the package is in the 6- 12 month range. Upon completion, we will furnish a cost estimate on the design materials package and provide any additional information needed for contractor discussions. You will need to engage with general contractors/builders to get pricing to build the home.

Materials Package Contract

Congratulations, youโ€™ve decided to build a Davis Frame home! To make your dream a reality, we require a deposit along with a signed contract securing your package price.

We will then prepare the files in our CADWORKS software to coordinate with our Hundegger CNC machines that will precisely cut your structural components. After the structural components are run through our CNC machines, our carpenters begin on the hand-finishing of your timber frame.

Your materials package will be delivered to your site within 8-12 weeks. In some cases, we can accelerate this timeline. At this point, it is important to get the builder involved, if we have not already connected. Once the builder is selected, we recommend getting them involved sooner rather than later.

The Build phase

Your builder will be in charge of the installation, as we do not offer in-house installation services. If your builder would like on-site assistance, we do offer technical advisor services where one of our crewmembers comes to the site for a day or two.
